Wind and Seas

The phrase “fair winds and following seas” is commonly known as a nautical blessing, expressing a wish for a safe and successful journey. My first real experience with the U.S. Navy, aside from a persistent recruiter in high school (that’s a story for another time), occurred while I was at the Portland Recruiting Battalion. Laurie joined our team as the waiver specialist after her husband, Jack, retired from the Navy and their family moved to Portland. We quickly became close, spending many hours together at work and with her family in the evenings and on weekends. Before long, I felt like part of their family and grew to care for them deeply.

After I left the military and moved to San Diego, their oldest daughter, Dawn, who was a Senior Chief Petty Officer on the USS Bon Homme Richard, stayed with us before and after her 2002 deployment supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. She became the little sister I never had. Though we have lived in different places over the past 20 years, we have stayed connected.

This candle captures the essence of a complex, mineral-rich sea salt fragrance that evokes the tranquility of a spa. Infused with hints of cardamom and orange peel, it offers a rich heart of sea salt resting on an exquisite aquatic base of palm, light musk, and amber. 

It is with great affection that I dedicate this candle to the entire Wamsley family and to every Navy sailor I have had the honor to salute. May it serve as a reminder of our enduring bonds and the journeys yet to come.
